Monster Energy’s Gymkhana GRiD – Website Design


Collective Industries were approached in 2014 to manage the redesign of the new Gymkhana GRiD website for 2015.

Gymkhana GRiD is a drift event series featuring superstar drifter, Ken Block,  that runs across Europe but in more recent years has also ventured to the USA too.  The event its self is made up of mini championships where drivers from all over the world are invited to enter and compete. The overall winner from each mini-event will make it through to the Gymkhana GRiD Final where they will have a chance to compete against the main man himself, Ken Block, and other professionals, equally famous drift drivers.

The new site needed to be minimal, cool, dynamic, link to their social media channels, and most importantly showcase the amazing imagery and stories taken from their events throughout the years.  The previous sites had always been built and designed around Ken Blocks latest livery, but this only caused unnecessary work each season to rebuild and re-skin, so the new site also needed to provide a blank canvas that would last the years and incorporate generic Gymkhana GRiD branding.


Using WordPress as our CMS of choice we designed and built a responsive, fresh website.

Using a vertical sidebar for the main navigation and site title we ensured the important details and event branding remained visible on every page at all times.  We also made sure that the social media icons (with links) were clearly visible on this section too.

The homepage has been set up in a dynamic format, with the latest new stories loading into a masonry-style grid which uses large, eye-catching imagery, and text overlays to give title details.  Imagery is something this event does well, so the site had to make the most of this – I think we nailed it!

Access and training were then provided to all the writers so that content could be managed and uploaded by a number of people to ensure the site remained fresh and up to date at all times.
