How to Use Twitter for Marketing & PR

  1. Create your profile – If you don’t know how to do this we can do it for you – click here!
  2. Start writing some status updates – You only get 140 Characters so there is now need to write a great story, keep it short and sweet.  Why not post a link to an article you liked, let everyone know what you are up to right now, or post a thought.
  3. Follow and Get Followed – This is the way to make friends on Twitter.  You can search by interests, locations, names, the list goes on – it’s simple!  Our account is down at the moment but as soon as it get back up you can get started by following me: Harriet Bishop Marketing & Design on Twitter.  You can also click on the people that other people are following to find more people to follow.
  4. Post Links – 140 Characters isn’t a lot of space if you have a really long URL, so use www.tiny.cc to get it shortened and add your comment so people know what it is!
  5. Check out what people are saying about you – Even if you are not a member you can monitor what people are saying about any person, company or brand.  Use the search engine onntwitter to do this, if you find a particular search usefull then subscribe to the RSS feed so you stay updated.
  6. Chat to your new friends – Use the @ symbol before someones name to let them know you are talking to them, this is called a “mention” which they will be notified of by a link to their profile.
